Pop Culture Pussycat: The Art of Lisa Petrucci

Lisa Petrucci's adorable, big-eyed kitty pieces of art are catnip to a girl like me! Heck, even when a cat isn't the main focus of one of her paintings, you'll still usually find one lurking around somewhere in the background, adding to the kitschy cuteness factor.

I love Lisa's paintings because they're colorful, retro, fun, and just make you feel good when you look at them! It's evident by her work that Petrucci is obsessed with pop culture, and according to her bio, her collection of "old toys, dolls, kitsch, pin up art, vintage men’s magazines and pulps" is what inspires her art.

One of the many things that makes her paintings unique is that instead of using a traditional canvas, she paints on round bark border pieces of wood. The completed pieces are then coated with envirotex, which makes for a deliciously super shiny end result!

She has been at work on her pop-culture masterpieces since 1993, and is a well-known fixture in the Pop Surrealism art movement.
