Catsparella 2010 Holiday Gift Guide - People Edition

Whether you've been a good kitty or a very bad cat this year, here are my picks for what to get yourself or your favorite cat-lover this holiday season!

Diamond Necklace, 14k White Gold Black Diamond Cat Pendant - Macys, $269.10 (sale!)

Purr by Katy Perry Eau de Parfum - Nordstrom, 1.7 oz for $45.00, 3.4 oz for $65.00

Whether you love Katy Perry or hate her, you must admit that the bottle for her new fragrance is purrfect. I finally got a chance to check it out at Nordstrom last weekend, and wasn't disappointed! The bottle is beautiful in person, and the perfume itself, a complicated mixture of "peach nectar, forbidden apple, jasmine blossom, Bulgarian rose, vanilla orchid, creamy sandalwood, and musk" is actually quite light, and smells delicious.

Kitty Sweater - Pretty Snake, $40.00

Aloof and Winking Cat Stud Earrings - FluffsStuffs, $9.00

Paul & Joe Cat Lipstick - Urban Outfitters, $25.00

Constellation Cat Print - Clever Nettle, $16.00

Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat [Paperback] - Amazon, $9.00

Definitely my favorite cat book I have read this year (read more about it here)! As a bonus, author Gwen Cooper donates 10% of all domestic royalties from the book to organizations that serve abused, abandoned, and disabled animals, including Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc.

Hello Kitty Brut Rose - Wine Country Gift Baskets, $29.95 (Via Jake and Micah)

The perfect gift for your favorite over 21-year-old Hello Kitty aficionado (a.k.a. me).

Finally, as I mentioned last year, the gift of charity never goes out of style! Why not make a donation to your local animal shelter or rescue organization for yourself, or on behalf of someone else? If you're not sure where to start, check Petfinder to find a shelter in your area. In addition, here are some other worthy organizations that could use your help this season (and all year round):

Located in Ringoes, NJ, Tabby's Place is a cage-free sanctuary that provides refuge to cats in hopeless situations. Their cats primarily come from public shelters where they have been scheduled for euthanasia. Young or old, sick or healthy, Tabby's Place serves as an adoption center, a hospital, and a hospice for chronically or terminally ill cats to live out their lives in comfort. I visited the facility during one of their open houses, and was extremely impressed. True to their word, there are no cages, just large rooms and outdoor enclosure where the cats can enjoy fresh air and sunlight. They even have special rooms for FIV+ and overweight kitties! Click here to visit their site and see how you can help.

Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary is a non-profit animal rescue and sanctuary located in North Carolina. Blind Cat Rescue was started to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters and were going to be killed because they were blind. They are also currently working to raise funds to build a second shelter to house FEL/FIV+ cats. Click here to learn more and donate.

Big Cat Rescue, located in Tampa, FL, is a non profit educational sanctuary devoted to rescuing and providing a permanent home for exotic (i.e. wild, not domestic) cats who have been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets, retired from performing acts, or saved from being slaughtered for fur coats, and to educating the public about these animals and the issues facing them in captivity and in the wild. Click here to help!

Remember, donations do not always have to be monetary. They can be in-kind, such as food, toys, medical supplies, etc. (check with your shelter to see if they have a wish-list), or even the gift of volunteering your time and expertise to the shelter of your choice can really make a difference!
