Celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D took to her Facebook page earlier this week to open up about the devastating house fire that claimed the life of her five-month-old kitten, Valentine back in November. In the posting, titled Life After Death, Kat also discussed her other departed feline, Ludwig, and the strong impact his death had on her.
She writes, "When Ludwig (my first hairless Sphynx cat) passed away, I was devastated to say the least. I didn't handle it with much strength - even in the middle of filming LA Ink, I broke down several times. It took me months to even be able to look at another cat. I even remember resenting my sister when she'd tell me cute things about her cat..."
"The day I got Valentine, an entire year had passed since Ludwig's death. And even though I only had her for about 5 months or so before she died in the fire in the house, I loved her so much. We slept together every night that I wasn't on the book tour. And yes, I still miss her. But THIS TIME, I don't want to make the same mistake by holding on to the past like I did with Ludwig..."
Baby Piaf
In the spirit of moving forward, Von D went on to reveal that she's getting a new cat, another hairless Sphynx called Piaf (translated to "Little Sparrow" in French), named after singer Edith Piaf. She also shared two pictures of the tiny kitten, and confessed he's only "a few weeks old", and that she'll be picking him up in two weeks.
The newest member of the Von D family
Our condolences to Kat for the loss of sweet Valentine, and wishes for a long, healthy life to her new "Little Sparrow"!
