Happy Birthday, Garfield! The first Garfield comic strip was published on June 19, 1978, making him 33 years old today! (Yes, he's still older than I am). Along with Hello Kitty and Henrietta Pussycat, Garfield was one of my favorite fictional felines growing up.
There's a party going on right now on the official Garfield Facebook page, and the PAWS team has also created a new retro design (above), covering everything from tees and tote bags, to onesies and water bottles, to help mark the special occasion.
Better yet, everything in the Garfield Stuff shop, including this awesome 1980's line, is 20% off until June 24th, as a special thank you to all the fans.
I think I'm going to eat some lasagna and take a nap to celebrate!
I have always loved Garfield...Damn he is older than YOU???? Now I feel like Grandma Moses lol.
ReplyDeleteGarfield always reminded me of my Bobo. I adore Garfield!
LOL, yes..although admittedly, not by much!!! You are not Grandma Moses!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a cat-lover too! I love both Hello Kitty and Garfield. Never heard of Henrietta Pussycat although I know Azrael the cat in Smurfs, Felix the cat, and Puss in Boots. I am older than Garfield but I am one year younger than Hello Kitty. Nonetheless, I love them both!!
ReplyDelete@Anon Henrietta was a cat puppet in the Land of Make-Believe on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood :) I will do a post about her one of these days! Here's a pic: http://graphics2.jsonline.com/graphics/owlive/img/feb03/pussycatbig022803.jpg
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm.......lasagna......
ReplyDeleteI call my Henry "Henrietta Pussycat" sometimes and he doesn't seem to mind. Of course, I also call him Henry Penry, Henny Penny, Hankus Pankus (nickname of baseball great Hank Greenberg), Henry Kitt-inger, Hensky Pensky the Swedish Kitten, and Henri (pronounced the French way). My husband calls him Sonny Boy. It would be fun to do a feature on how many different names we have for our kitties.
Happy Birthday Mr. Garfield : )
ReplyDeleteMom love him too
xoxo
