A Miracle For Willow

Willow is a six-month old kitten I met on Facebook who has touched the hearts of hundreds (going on thousands) of people with her inspiring story of hope.

It all started on a fiercely cold, February day in Michigan when her mom, Wendy, answered a Craigslist ad for a free "crippled" kitten. You see, while she's adorable, sweet, and loving just like any other cat, Willow's back legs are very badly deformed (possibly from an accident during birth), making it difficult, if not impossible, for her to walk.

Wendy felt an instant connection with the tiny kitten and took her home, promising to take care of her. She prayed that a doctor would be able to fix Willow's legs, but was devastated to learn that the damage was irreversible. The vet even recommended that Willow, healthy in every other way, be put down.

Refusing to give up hope, Willow and her mom persevered, and along with the support of her new online friends, raised enough money to take her to an orthopedic vet who advised that her life could be improved with a specially made kitty-sized wheelchair.

I'm happy to report that her stylin' new wheelchair arrived this week, and while she's still getting used to it, this can only signal a new start for the miracle kitten her mama calls, "Princess."

Wendy has shared Willow's story in an effort to bring encouragement and hope, and to help show that all animals deserve a chance for a healthy, fulfilling life. Watch the video above to learn more about Willow's journey, and follow her on Facebook to keep up with her progress!

As an update to Piper: The Three Legged Wondercat post I did back in March: Piper has made an excellent recovery from her surgery. Her foster mom, who posts frequent updates and pictures on her Facebook page, recently (and happily!) announced that she has made the miraculous kitty a permanent member of her household. Congrats to Piper and her new family on their purrfectly happy ending!

  4. Oh, bless you sweet Princess Willow! What a wonderful story and what a wonderful, giving person Wendy is too. I had a kitten once that was born with only one eye - when I brought her to the vet, they thought it was because I wanted to "put her down."

She was with me for 12 wonderful years and had an enormous personality and I adored her to the ends of the earth. I can see why Wendy would be so taken with Willow.

  8. Hi there.
I just came across and read this story. I love it. It's beautiful. It reminds me of my cat. I'm in need of some assistance and haven't really been sure where to turn to.

I have a year old cat named Isabella, we often call her Bella cat, and she is disabled in her hind legs.

When Bella was 6 weeks old, she was accidentally slammed in a door, breaking her spine at the base of her tail. Other than her inability to walk, she is happy, healthy, and just like any other cat.

I am in search of two rings for Bella. The first, and most pertinent at the moment is a wheelchair. She needs to get her but off the ground as soon as possible. But I don't have the money to buy one as they are very expensive.

The second thing I need for her, is a new home. While I love her very much, I feel with my busy schedule being a working college student that I can't give her the proper care she needs and deserves. I would like to find her a home where she will be well taken care of.

If you have any way of helping me out with either of these things, please e-mail me at rwarimmadino@gmail.com.

Thank you, and good luck with Willow. Thank you for sharing her story. :]

  9. can you please tell me where you got your wheelchair. We have a kitty who no longer has use of her back legs. The little suit looks like it would be comfortable for her. diana
