Watch As These Kitties Explore Their New Home for the First Time

There's something oddly joy-inducing about this video by The Mean Kitty about cats exploring their new home for the first time. Maybe it's the music, or the IKEA Cats vibe? Either way, if I were a kitty and had as many cat trees as these guys do, I don't think I'd have any trouble adjusting to my surroundings either.

Have you ever had any interesting moving experiences with your cat?

AWESOME!! First - can we say that the open stairs and the bazillion cat trees are way too cool!!!!! we have to agree - move in the stuff first and then the kittehs. But mom smiled through the whole video!

Oh wow, that is an amazing place to be a cat in. I can't let my cats see this, they'll be crazy jealous and I'll never hear the end of it!

I mentioned this on Facebook but I'll mention it again. We moved our kitties Tchai and Bee Gee all the way from Toronto, Canada to Kidderminster in the UK. Then, just a few months later, we took them from Kidderminster to Wales. In total, four house changes in the course of a year. I have to say that they took the move in their stride. After a day of sniffing and investigating, they felt right at home!

Thanks for sharing this. He did just as the behaviorists recommend. Moving everything in and bringing in the cats last. While they looked a little nervous, having the things that smell like home and are familiar to them makes the transition less stressful for them.

When we moved apartments many years ago, our big gray cat Babe (of blessed memory) got spooked by the movers, and jumped into the HVAC ductwork. I looked up at the first floor register and saw two green eyes peering at me. After 8 hours of my crying, pleading, "here kitty kitty-ing", opening tuna cans near the open duct, sprinkling catnip near the open duct and crying some more, he hopped right out when my husband came home.

It is certainly a good idea to move the furniture in first. However logistically that did not work out the last time I moved and Bubbles and Madness ended up as 2 lumps under my sleeping bag for 2 days (http://randomdrift.blogspot.com/2008/10/we-moved.html).

That is a fantastic video! It warmed my heart...kitties are the best! (After a 2 day drive, my cat Inka literally disappeared in the new place she was brought to. I sat in the room that I had last seen her in and talked in the voice I normally used with her, after about an hour of listening to my voice, which she loved, she came out from inside a gas stove. She was all covered in soot but thankfully ok. After that, the back of the stove was blocked off so she couldn't go back in.)

This is such a lovely video, definitely has an Ikea vibe and that's one of my all time favourites. All those wide eyed looks like "is this all for ME?" =^..^=

Mean Kitty's people are obviously well trained!
They also love their cats...

The first move I made after adopting my now departed Toes went well, I brought her in after everything else was placed.

I had been unpacking some boxed stuff from storage and realized that I had not seen\heard her for a while. I could not see her in any room...after a half hour I was worried she had snuck into one of the boxes I had only partially unpacked...

Rather than re-open the dozen+ boxes I had just poked thru...I sat in the living room and told myself to wait an hour before starting that task.

All was quiet...until I heard a noise in the bathroom. I opened the cupboard and there she was curled in the back corner in an empty spot!

She could open all the door from the outside, so I left that area as her 'escape hatch' and kept cleaning stuff elsewhere.

I do miss her creative little self.

That was such a great video. Our Mom really enjoyed it a lot. Those are two lucky kitties to have such a great home with so many cat trees and just a really nice house and really good owners. Have a super Sunday.

Sweet little video. Funnily enough, those cats look just like our Kima and Bandit.

Very similar, almost exact coats.

We've moved to a new place twice with our cats, and each time it's been the same situation.

Kima: totally explorative, nothing fazes her.

Mica: hides underneath the bed for a day or so before she becomes explorative.

Bandit: stays in one corner for a few hours before he decides to explore.

Aja: just like our Kima, totally explorative, and nothing fazes her either.
