Schoolboys Rescue Kitten Found Floating Down Canal in Pink Basket

In a scene straight out of a movie, (or at least an after school special), two 11-year-old boys heroically rescued a young kitten who they found floating down the Leeds Liverpool Canal while tied into a pink basket.

The nine-week-old cat, now named Moses (or "Mo" for short), was heading towards a certain death as the container started to fill up with water. Fortunately, the boys spotted her cruising by, and sprang into action. Mo is now safe at the Craven and Upper Wharfedale RSPCA, where she will be available for adoption after recovering from her ordeal.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the RSPCA. Check out more pics of the kitty in the basket here.

  8. I agree with "kitcaboodles" dismay that it happened at all, but keep in mind Kit, that the thing to remember is that 2 good kids had the heart to rescue the kitty. That speaks volumes about the inherent good nature of people.....

  11. Well done, boys! What sort of human would tie a helpless kitty to a basket ensuing an almost certain death by slow drowning? He/she didn't even have the chance to escape!!!

Purring for Mo to get a loving home soon!

  12. When we saw the headline, we weren't sure this was a story we really wanted to read. There is so much cruelty in the world. But bravo for those boys! We're sure this is the beginning of a good life for such a sweet kitten. Whoever put her in the basket should be ashamed of themselves, but they probably haven't given it a second thought.
