California Congresswoman Carries On Annual Cat Christmas Card Tradition
Representative Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), spent nearly a decade sending out creative Christmas cards featuring herself, and her beloved Himalayan cat, Gretzky. (Click here for more images of Rep. Sachez's past greetings). When Gretzky passed in November of 2010, his death not only left a hole in her heart, but also a big question mark hanging over her yearly holiday card tradition.
Like any good public servant, the congresswoman took to polling her constituents about where they would like to see the greeting go, with options such as "totally traditional," "surf's up," and "happy trails" to chose from. Not surprisingly, the overwhelming response was to bring back Gretzky's familiar face.
In the end, Rep. Sanchez ended up mingling the old with the new, posing with her new husband, retired Army Col. Jack Einwechter, in front of a Christmas tree trimmed with ornaments covered in the fluffy kitty's sweet face. A fitting tribute to a fallen friend, and a touching reminder that gone never means forgotten.
