Welcome back for another edition of Caturday, where we catch up on the week's latest cat news, and get to meet some of your amazing kitties!
This week, Ricky Gervais was revealed to be a real man who loves cats, the kitty social media takeover showed no signs of slowing down, we caught up with Meme, the cutest kitten in the world, the battle between cats vs the meowing birthday card raged on, we got a good laugh at one woman's cat poo revenge, were excited to announce that Catsparella has joined Catster, coveted some Absolutely Fabulous le chat noir socks, spent time falling in love with a vintage kitten print dress, watched a dreamy feline inspired music video, and wallpapered our homes in what else? Kitties, of course! I also want to thank everyone who took the time to read my post about the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center, a no-kill shelter in New Jersey that is in danger of closing. I was touched by how many of you helped spread the word, and also donated money to the cause. You guys rock!
In other news, this week I had the opportunity to interview My Cat From Hell host, cat behaviorist, Jackson Galaxy! Click here to read the full interview, and don't forget to tune in to the season 2 premiere of the show tonight (Sat. Jan 7th) at 8 PM ET/PT on Animal Planet!
And finally, I'd like to give a warm welcome to our new January sponsor, sassyNpunk Boutique! sassyNpunk is an online boutique that caters to retro and kawaii inspired fashion accessories. They produce their own line of jewelry, hair accessories, and gifts, but also stock products by brands such as Tokidoki, Sanrio, Cute Plush, Lime Crime, and more! Some of my favorite items from their shop include Hello Kitty earmuffs, and the Pusheen the cat inspired line of jewelry and plush! Please do stop by to have a look around! We ♥ our sponsors!
This week's featured feline is a Texas Southern Belle, who was breaking hearts right from the very start! Her sleepy mug has even been immortalized in ink, where you can buy her image on t-shirts and tote bags from the Gridelin Etsy shop!
Luannie writes,
"Meet Ms. Kitty. She was adopted in 2004 from our local Humane Society here in San Antonio, TX.
Ms. Kitty was the first cat I owned, and I'll never forget the day we met. My boyfriend Thomas and I went down to the Humane Society not really intending on bringing a cat home with us. However, when we met her we knew we couldn't leave without her.
We began to fill out adoption papers and finally walked to the kitty house with a volunteer to pick up our cat, but we couldn't find her anywhere. I then glanced over and noticed a mother with her two sons in a room playing with a few cats. Ms. Kitty was in there.
My heart sunk thinking that we wouldn't be able to adopt her. The volunteer was so great, she looked me in the eyes and said, "No, that is YOUR cat, the two of you bonded and I'm going to get her!" I couldn't look away as she entered the room and grabbed Ms. Kitty explaining to the family that she was already adopted. I noticed one of the boys start to cry. I felt so bad but when I looked down at Ms. Kitty in my arms I knew we were meant to be.
She has always been an independent cat who loves sunbathing as well as hunting birds and lizards in our backyard. When she is ready to come inside she lets us know by knocking on our window with her paw. On one of her outdoor adventures she was stung by a bee on her face. When she knocked on our window I immediately noticed her swollen head. I rushed her to the vet where they nicknamed her "Shar-Pei" kitty. We were sent home with meds and in no time she was back to her old adventurous self.
Like many cats she loves napping. Her love of sleep even inspired me to make a design for my Etsy shop, Gridelin. I snapped a photo of her yawning and decided to screen print it. Her lazy image has been worn by our customers around the world and even by Must Love Cats host, John Fulton.
Ms. Kitty has brought so much love into my life. I am so lucky to have found her."
Special thanks to Luannie for sharing her sleeping beauty with us this week! I myself know what it means to be inspired by your first kitty muse, and envision a long and successful collaboration between these two lovely ladies!
