IFC Comedy "Portlandia" Recruits Feline Cast Member

(Click here to watch if video doesn't load)

"Portlandia" - the IFC comedy series created by and starring SNL's Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein (formerly of Sleater-Kinney) - added a bit of feline levity to a recent episode, which I quickly found out when a friend frantically texted me on Friday night exclaiming, "Portlandia is doing a skit about a cat in a band!"

In between sketches skewering everything from Etsy jewelry sellers to Kickstarter, fictional band members Armisen and Brownstein decide they need a gimmick, and recruit neighborhood cat Kevin to join the mix. The trio change their name from "The Nap" to "Catnap," and quickly gain critical (internet) acclaim for their song, "Whisker Patrol." After a sold out peformance, the band members are confronted by a disgruntled fan named Gathy (played by guest star Kristen Wiig), who kidnaps the group to prevent them from going on tour.

Kevin is played to purrfection by Mac ("Most Amazing Cat"), a feline actor who got his start after being rescued from a barn. Oregon Live reports that in addition to appearing on "Portlandia," Mac also made an appearance alongside Diane Lane in the film "Untraceable," and will be purring his way onscreen in the the upcoming Amanda Seyfried drama, "Gone."

"Portlandia" airs Friday nights at 10/9c on IFC, and for a limited time, you can watch last week's full episode of "Cat Nap" (which I highly recommend you do!) here.

"This is where you come in, Kevin."

This clip KILLED me, especially because I would TOTALLY see a band that had a cat, JUST BECAUSE they had a cat.
