Around The World In 80 Cats #3: Greece

When I first started "Around the World in 80 Cats" one of my biggest wishes was that fellow cat lovers would be inspired to share their cat-themed vacation pictures from around the globe!

This week, Sara from Belgium wrote in to give us a look at some of the gorgeous images she captured last year while on holiday in Athens and Crete.

Sara writes:

Greece is known for its abundance of cats, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I took dozens of kitty pictures, every day! One image in particular that is very dear to me was taken in the beautiful town of Chania in Crete. In the middle of the city we stumbled across three identical kittens with the most beautiful blue eyes. I still can't believe they were street cats. I'll never forget those eyes!

There isn't really any particular spot to see cats in Athens or Crete as they are EVERYWHERE! But seeing them in a beautiful town, by the sea, or at an ancient ruin makes it extra special. For any dog lovers out there, there's dozens of them at all the ancient sites in Athens, too.

  1. These are all so beautiful. Those amazing eyes. The feral cat is so enchanting and yet it breaks your heart to wonder if they are hungry. I'm afraid I would want to feed them all. Deb

  2. I love this travel series with cat photos! I think I missed #2 so I have to go back. The cat on the ruins looks so regal.

  3. It looks like if you're going to be a feral or semi-feral cat, Greece is a good place to do it.

  5. This is awesome, I'd love to go there one day! Btw when I get back from my volunteer project in Africa in August I'd love to share the cats there with you (if you're still doing this column then) - there are also over 30 domestic cats that live on the sanctuary where I'm volunteering :o)
