Why is it that cats love sticking their paws in water bowls and hanging out in sinks - but absolutely hate getting wet? Columbia doesn't aim to answer that question in their "Great Moments of Trying Stuff" series - but we do find out just how cute a grumpy black cat can look while wearing one of their new waterproof jackets.
Also, before you send me angry comments about animal mistreatment, I'd like to point out that the shoot was supervised by the American Humane Association, who ensured that no animals were harmed. If you look carefully, it appears that the cat doesn't even really get wet!
I find this commercial kind of adorable. I love when they're measuring the cat! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is hysterical! What wonderful and creative advertising!
ReplyDelete@Anon Me too! Such an expressive kitty! :)

LOL But it's a domestic shorthair, not an American shorthair. That is a pissy cat.
ReplyDeleteWhat a patient, well behaved cat. Rain or no rain, mine wouldn't put up with wearing a jacket.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am way off base but I hated it. i felt bad for the cat whose tail was hanging out with the water pouring on it.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't like how the cat was portrayed as being mean...the stereotype of black cats being evil was continued. I was sent this video too to post and just didn't like it at all.
maybe i was being oversensitive but it really bothered me.
The cat NEVER got wet. The spray landed in front of him. You can see his fur stays dry throughout the commercial.
ReplyDeleteAnd he is a very well trained cat. Cute!
If you've massively inconvenienced a cat and not even demonstrated that it actually keeps him dry, what's in it for the cat?
