Adorable Ailment Known As "Bellyrubitis" Sweeps Nation's Shelters
SPCA-TV Health Report: Bellyrubitis
As animal welfare organizations struggle to come up with creative ideas to promote pet adoption, one shelter has gained national attention by inventing an adorable illness for which adoption is the only cure.
The SPCA of Westchester, a no-kill shelter located in Briarcliff Manor, NY, recently issued an eye-catching news report, alerting viewers to the "Bellyrubitis" epidemic currently sweeping the country. Symptoms of the cute cat disease include, "spontaneous flopping over for tummy scratches, accompanied by squinty-eyed fatigue and uncontrollable purring," for which adoption is the only effective treatment.
As cat lovers, there are many things we can do to help combat this terrible malady affecting an untold number of felines, including visiting a local shelter to fill out an adoption application, and reading The Oatmeal's "How to pet a kitty."
Thanks to my Twitter pal @CatsOutOfTheBag for the tip!
It'd be a terrible burden to bear, but I'd gladly take on any and all cases of Bellyrubitis.
