Nation Prepares For Cute Coma As Hallmark Channel Announces Kitten Bowl 2014

Are you ready for some...KITTEN BALL??? Apparently, Hallmark Channel thinks so. On Friday, the greeting card namesake announced plans to air the first ever Kitten Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday, 2014.

The news comes as no surprise to feline sports fans, who knew it was only a matter of time before these budding cathletes started a league of their own. Tired of their second tier billing during Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl, inside reports claim that the kittens were fed up with sitting on the sidelines like a bunch of BeyoncĂ©s until their paltry 15-minute Kitty Halftime Show segment, and approached the network about getting their own game day special.

Hallmark revealed that the inaugural three hour event will be produced in conjunction with the American Humane Association, and will star adoptable kittens competing in agility competitions such as "an obstacle course of hurdles of varying heights, A-frame Alpine scratchers, tunnels, hoop jumps and weave poles." (Which all sounds well and good, but if you've ever tried to get a cat to do.. um, anything, you know we're going to be in for a comical three hours. Consider my schedule cleared.) The channel's "original movie talent" will serve as judges, referees, and sideline trainers, and viewers can also get involved by voting for the game's MVK ("Most Valuable Kitten).

The first ever Kitten Bowl will air at noon (EST) on Feb. 2, 2014 on Hallmark Channel, but if you've already found yourself panic stricken over which show to watch on the big day, rest assured. The Puppy Bowl doesn't start until 3PM, so you won't have to fight your dog loving friends for the remote.

  3. Finally! The Puppy Bowl is so boring, especially for us cat lovers who tune in only for the too-brief Kitten Half Time. Can't wait for this new Kitten Bowl show, have already marked my calendar. Might have to check out Hallmark channel more often if they are this creative and innovative. Good for Hallmark!
