It's Caturday!

Welcome back for another edition of Caturday, where we catch up on the week's latest cat news and get to meet some of your amazing kitties!

It was a light posting week because I was away on a trip (which I will talk more about on Monday!), but Ke$ha rescued a kitty, Emma got colorful cat cupcakes for her birthday, and I opened up a giveaway for Cat Versus Human creator Yasmine Surovec's new book, "I See Kitty"! Get your entry in soon, because I'm drawing the lucky winner this coming Tues., 10/15!

Monet

This week's featured feline is a beautiful blind kitten who got a second chance at life thanks to her compassionate new mom!

Kacie writes:

Monet came into my life just 4 months ago. I was working as a vet tech at a municipal animal shelter in New Orleans and upon intake one of the kennel workers brought three kittens to the vet office that were clearly sick. Monet was one of these three.

Both of her eyes were ruptured leaving her blind. She was only six weeks old and weighed just one pound. The vet determined that her eyes would need to be removed, so I began to search for a foster home. To my surprise, a few people I contacted suggested that she be put down, even though the vet said she would go on to live a normal life other than being blind.

I took her home to foster the day of her surgery. It wasn't long before we knew that she was staying with us! I ended up adopting one of her siblings too, that was her "seeing eye cat" before she showed us all that she didn't need any help!

Monet is in inspiration to me daily. She does everything any normal cat does with no problem. People are amazed that she doesn't have eyes and can still do things like climb to the top of a six foot cat tree!  She is a spunky little girl that loves her dog and cat siblings as well as her human companions, and the feeling is mutual!

Special thanks to Kacie for sharing Monet's heartwarming story with us this week! This kitty's courage should be an inspiration to us all!

Blind cats amaze me, they can do things that sighted cats can do.

What a great story. It makes me happy that Monet now has a loving family to take care of her. Cats are quite the amazing creatures. I am constantly amazed and impressed by what they are capable of given the right environment. I am a firm believer that our animal companions live up to whatever we expect of them and more. Happy Caturday!!
